SEW FUN

I have always wanted to learn to sew. It's one of the things I want to mark off my personal list of accomplishments. The time to learn could not be any better. I have three cute girls who need some cute things made by Mommy. :)

For Christmas last year my Aunt Cathy and my Grandparents gave me this sewing machine they found at a garage sale and had fixed up.

I am just now getting around to using it after being pregnant and getting ready for my babies. I am so glad I got it out and figured it out how to use it. I had absolutely no sewing knowledge until a few days ago. I read some stuff online, talked with my Aunt a few times, and read the machine's manual (which Nick found online for me). I'm sure I am not doing everything correctly but the things I have made so far have turned out pretty cute. I have just been doing projects that only require straight lines - I was told that's a good way to start. I'm having so much fun. Here are some pics of what I have made so far.

When I got my machine, my Aunt and Grandmother had given me a bunch of old fabric scraps. To learn how to use the machine, I used the scraps to make a little bag for Eden. It is probably the worst sewn bag ever, but Eden adored it. I didn't measure anything, I just went to town sewing trying to figure out what I was doing. (Don't look too closely.)

After I had some idea how to sew a straight line, I made these little dresses for E. I had seen them online a while ago and thought, "I can totally make that!" They are really very easy to make.

I started with a bandana dress...

Then, I had some zebra fabric from something I did last year and applied the same idea from the bandana dress to make this...

I love how excited she gets when I finish something and let her put it on.

I am now working on all the girls' Halloween costumes. I can't wait to see how they will turn out.

Have a great weekend!

How inspiring! :-) I want to learn to sew too, but my one or two efforts did not turn out so well - I need to persevere! I'm impressed at what you have already made!

I have wanted to sew for so long! I know basic stuff and could figure it out but i do not know how to put my sewing machine together! HAHA!! Grandmother gave it to me some years back and before she passed away I made her a handkerchief with it so she could have the first project. I left it beside her bed a few days before she went to heaven! Anyways, I am going to Fort Stockton next weekend and am getting Mom & Jessica to show me the ins and outs! I have the "Sewing for Dummies" book and it's awesome hahaha I think it's great that we are starting to do this at the same time. I've always known that if I had a girl I would want to sew clothes for her. I want to be able to sew so well that I could sketch anything or see anything I like and sew it for myself... and now.. for Anna! I like what you have made so far! If you find a super duper pattern for a pettiskirt, let me know. I have several sources but haven't tried any yet! I'm obviously excited about sewing!

E is adorable! I love pillowcase dresses! Sewing is something I really want to learn too. Maybe I need to start garage sale-ing or ebay-ing! There are so many precious things that seem like they can be fairly easily made. I am totally impressed with you sewing and keeping up with three girls under three :)

Piper has lived in these dresses for nearly a year! I love to sew, but don't have the time ... so I can make a ton of these dresses for very little money and just an afternoon of work. [She loves to go with me to pick out the fabric :)]

Put a long sleeved, solid shirt under them in the winter and you're all set!!!
