When I first started college, I noticed 2 of my roommates just loved to run. And, not just every once in a while, but EVERYDAY. I thought to myself - "those girls are crazy - i hate running, better yet - i can't stand to exercise!" I couldn't believe the discipline they had to get up every morning and run. I'm not talking like a 20 minute jog - they would run for like an hour, maybe longer and actually RUN!
Both of my brothers were runners all through middle school and high school. I was a cheerleader and on the dance team. I didn't run. I actually tried to do track one year but couldn't make it past the 2nd day and ended up quitting. (Hey! I tried didn't I) :)
I decided I really wanted to change and make a difference in myself as a college student. I wanted to create a new me and that meant becoming a real athlete. (I wasn't on the competitive cheer squad or dance team - so it wasn't exactly athletic) So, I decided to give this running thing a try. When I first started I ended up walking most the way. Then it gradually became a full on jog, which then turned into running. I was doing it! I got to the point where for an ENTIRE semester - I got up an extra hour and a half earlier than I was supposed to and ran for at least an hour if not more and made time for a quiet time. (Wow - I'm pretty sure that's a lot to get done before class as a college student. Most my fellow students came to class still in their pajamas!) I probably was running around 6 miles a day. I think about that now and can't believe I actually did that. But, it felt like such a huge accomplishment. I saw a difference in my ability to focus during class and an increase in energy and overall happiness. I loved that feeling. I miss it. I actually loved running.
Now, I'm missing it more because I don't have the stamina to run 6 miles everyday and it makes me sad. I want to do that again. I made the decision yesterday that I was just going to do it. So, I got out the jogging stroller and went for it. We only went for about 30 minutes but something is better than nothing. I did end up walking most the way but I did jog some. My goal is the Turkey Trot in November. We always do the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day and this year I would like to RUN it and actually get a good time. Maybe I will try for a half marathon in Feb. - we'll see! ;)
Here is Eden ready to go - she's excited!

Here are my sweet roomies who inspired me! (Please excuse the HORRIBLE picture - it was the only one of us 3 I found on Nick's comp. - all the pics of us are on my comp. - I had to crop someone out.) Left - Cynthia; Right-Anne
